• It’s required to record anything unless you use it with Plex like I do which is free if you’re a Plex pass member.

• DVR service is required for DVR functionality. You will still be able to access your existing recordings after the 1 year period without the service, but you will be unable to record anything new, unless you buy another SERVIO or SCRIBE or you sign up for a year of service.
