“If I only want to record "off air broadcast tv" do I still need to pay the $35 subscription fee?”

• If you are using a SCRIBE DUO, you don't need to pay a subscription at all for the first year. Your DVR will just work. After your first year, if you want to record over the air tv, you'll need a subscription, though you'll be able to play back anything you recorded without a subscription forever.

• I believe you need the subscription to record. It needs the guide data they supply to schedule recordings. You don't need it to watch though.

• I have a Plex account as well as the homerun account. Using the homerun account is what allows me to record OTA programs. Without it is a pain. With plex it allows me to record on my computer for added space.
