• No. Brand new hard drives are not formatted. The operating system will automatically do that for you. The quick format only takes a few seconds KoernersComputerServices

• It is formatted NTFS for Windows. If installing in a Mac, you will need to use Disk Utility to format it as HFS+ (Journaled) before installing OS X.

• No the drive does not come formatted. it was an easy process to do. it just takes some time. make sure you accomplish the fully format! After installing the drive it will not show up as a drive in Windows Explorer because it is not yet formatted. go to disk management to format the drive. there are lots of explanations online that will show you how to do it.
