It is definitely compatible with any Xbox One system. I have it on my original Xbox One and my cousin just bought the same hard drive and it using it on his Xbox One S.

If it is USB 3.0 or higher than yes you can just use one of the USB ports and just follow the prompts on the screen. I suggest having your Xbox on when you plug it in.
