Yes just copy the folders onto seagate unplug the drive and plug it into the computer you want to copy the folders onto use windows explorer.

You can absolutely back up whatever folders you wish and copy them to another machine. It does work with Windows 8.1. I am not familiar with Mac's but I would like to think a Mac could handle something as simple as adding a file.

You can transfer files between mac and windows as long as the disk is formatted to Fat32. Formatting the disk to fat32 is very simple if you are on mac. I would totally recommend it, i use it everyday with my macbook pro retina
