You will need third-party software to reliably protect the data. Head to the EFF's website - http:/www.eff.org - you can find all sorts of privacy tools that will reliably protect your data. Do not rely on simple passwords, as they can easily be compromised and are routinely bypassed. You need encryption - OpenPGP would be a great choice. There is a small learning curve associated with it, but once mastered and deployed, NO ONE can get to your data - not even trained spies! Good luck!

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. Not by using its proprietary software. You'd likely have to utilize some third-party software to do that, and I suspect that that would interfere with the backups, as the backup software wouldn't be able to access the files while they're locked.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes they can. If you are using Windows or OSX, look into PGP (Pretty Good Privacy) program. If you use Linux, look into GPG (GNU Privacy Guard). These programs will allow you to encrypt and password-protect your files and directories. YouTube has many "how-to" videos on how to use these applications.
