Best bet is make an ubuntu live cd or startup USB. I personally would use a 4GB or 8GB usb. I had to recover data from many hard drives as they fail and ubuntu lets you copy and retry without aborting the entire process, that way you can start copying, and the hard drive flakes on and off, you just have to keep retrying.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You might have to reformat it. Try using a disk utility program to see if the current partition can be repaired. If it can't, most disk utility programs should have the ability to allow you to reformat the drive and create a brand new partition on it. If this still doesn't work, the hardware itself might be broken.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. If it stopped working then send it back to Seagate. Of course with more info someone here may know how to get it working for you long enough to pull your date. That is before you send it in for repairs. It sounds to me as if you unplugged the usb without unmounting the drive. Doing this could cause a lose of data or corrupt your drive. Shut everything down then plug it back in. Once its plugged in then turn every thing back on again. This dumb little trick has worked for me on other drives in the past. Maybe you'll get lucky and it will work for you.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Boot up the puter, plug in the drive. Reboot the puter with the drive plugged in, it may take 2 or three times doing so. It should reboot the external drive so that you can access.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I regret that you cannot "fix" a dead portable HD. The manufacturer is the only one who could do so and they would only toss it aside and send you a new one for replacement. In other words, it would cost more to fix than to replace. If the device is under warranty contact the manufacturer.
