Backward comparable with USB 2.0 means that even if your pc is older or does not have a USB 3.0 port this product will still work. The transfer will not be as fast but all the features will still function without any problems.

The cable works with both fast USB 3.0 and older, slower USB 2.0, so whatever USB your computer has, the drive can work to transfer files back and forth.

It means if your PC has USB 2.0 instead of 3.0 it'll work with it. Even though it's optimized for 3.0.

Raye - It means that, although it is designed to work with USB 3 and Will be at it's fastest, it will still work on a USB 2 port, just a little slower (pretty much like what ever was there before it). In short: You don't need a 3.0 hub to get this working.

The device itself is USB3 (MUCH faster), but you can plug it into USB2 and even plain old original USB computers if you still have one.
