• They operate the same, they just offer different features. STDT5000100 is advertised as a backup drive, offering backup software and such. Also has a longer warranty.. I guess to make you feel safe about backing up your data to it? The STEB5000100 is just marketed as an expansion drive with a 1 year warranty. I've had both, I prefer the STDT model, the materials seem to be of better quality. I returned the STEB
