• they sell "mac" drives as well, however its all about formatting. when you plug this in to your mac you should be given the option to format and that will allow you to use it.

• I use it with my MAC Book Pro. It is compatible with Mac out of the box. In that state it can be used to access files from both Mac and Windows. I chose to reformat the drive to Mac file structure since I use time machine for backup and no longer use a windows PC.

• It works great with my MacBook Pro retina. Should be fine with yours, but you may need to use disk utility to format it first.
