Q: QuestionWhy does this drive, the 4TB Seagate Backup Plus FAST has a transfer rate (220mb/s) slower than the 4TB Seagate Backup Plus Slim (up to 4.8Gb/s)?
Asked by Brian.
- A:Answer The 4.8 Gb/s is the maximum transfer rate of USB3, NOT the transfer rate of the drive. The 4TB Seagate Backup Plus Slim has a transfer rate of 120 MB/s, and the FAST has 220 MB/s, because the FAST has two drives in one enclosure and uses RAID 0 to spread your data across the two drives, making access faster.

Q: QuestioniPod AlternativeThe Jan issue of MacLife responded to a question about a substitute for the iPod Classic. They suggested buying a portable hard drive. How would this work? Copy iTunes to the hard driving then use a Bluetooth speaker system? I am looking at the Seagate Backup Plus Fast 4 TB External USB 3.0 portable hard drive. Will that do the trick? Thanks.
Asked by Fab.
- A:Answer This is exactly what I bought it for. Only problem I had: lost some of the album cover artwork when I transferred my music library from my MacBook. This drive works just as I had hoped!

Q: QuestionCompatability with OS X YosemiteIs the Seagate - Backup Plus Fast 4TB External USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drive - Black Model: STDA4000100 compatable with OS X Yosemite?
Asked by Capt. Rib.
- A:Answer Yes. Click on the drive, and then from the File menu, pull down to Get Info. It should say Format: Mac OS Extended (Journaled) if you paid extra for a Mac formatted drive. But it takes about 1 minute to format the drive properly if it says FAT32, or Windows File System, using Apple's Disk Utility, in the Utilities folder, in your Applications folder.
