• Yes Molly, this item should work just fine for what you intend on using it for. You can always ask the Geeks or other personal at BestBuy when making your purchase, but I don't see any reason it wouldn't work.

• I am running Windows 7 on my 5 year old Asus laptop and it worked fine. I moved all of my pictures and other files to the backup and deleted all of them on my computer as I was running out of back up space. No problems. There are very few directions included with the Seagate I bought, but I found that I didn't need them anyway.
