I don't know and did not look into what a Dish Hopper is but I use these drives on "converter boxes" with brand names such a HomeWorx, IView, Mediasonic, (Aluratek is available from Best Buy but have not used this brand) that not only allow recording and queuing of over the air broadcasts (maybe some unencrypted cable, but I have never used these boxes for this) but also allow playing music, pictures and movies (most formats e.g. mp4, wmv, VOB {dvd video format}). I love these boxes and 2TB is the maximum size these boxes handles (last I checked).
