“Can this be used to access a HD removed from a MBP? Does this open up to insert a HD?! I purchased it intending to back up files from my new MBP (10.10.4 running Yosemite) as well as access another HD from my previous MBP (10.6.8 running Snow Leopard). Awhile back I had a HD fail on a previous MBP of mine and I purchased an external HD to encase a new HD--I don't see that this one opens up though (to insert the HD)... or does it and I just can't figure it out?! THX”

This already has a drive installed, and while I'm sure it could be opened, you'd be wasting money. Look for a USB or Thunderbolt 2.5" disk enclosure instead that's designed for just the purpose you need.

I'm sure the local geek squad could transfer the files from your old hard drive to the new external unit for very little- fone your local store and ask
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I do not believe this will permit end-user drive swaps. It is not designed for this (my observation only.) There are probably other products better suited to your needs. This is what it is: a compact 1TB USB drive.
