Unlike the seagate external hard drives in the past, these new ones take power through a single USB cable. They are extremely light unlike the older ones from years ago. They will work on USB 3.0 or 2.0. I use them on 3.0 and the driver loads automatically in seconds. They are great. I have 3 of them but just with one terabyte each. Ed
