YES, I used this item on the airplane and watched movies using the wireless mode from the HD to my iPad and my associates Chrome Pixel. GREAT asset for the $$.
As for storing APPS, YES there also. I have over 500 apps stored on this device, when I need them, I wire up and click.

There is an app for both the iPad/ and the other devices...
depending how you down load your movies, either through iTunes own your own DVD's 
you will need a third party DVD rip software/ best thing to do is research it on youtube

I have used the hard drive to store my music and movies. I connect my tablet via wireless and have not had a problem viewing videos at all.

I have not tried to save any apps to the drive.

its a great device to travel with if you want to watch movies.
Not so sure about storing apps....I guess you could use it for that but its main purpose is for movies and music streaming

If you can find video player with proper codecs to play your videos will work for travel....mx player seems to be best out right now but still lacking....battery seems chincy though I give it 2 movies tops before recharge....wont store apps you need blustacks on pc for that....

App installers and files storage, yes. Install apps to the drive or have apps, other than the Seagate app, access files or data on the drive, NO.
