A:Answer The 3.5mm connection is the analog connection, and the optical connection is the digital connection. There isn't an analog to digital switch on the headset itself if that's what you're asking. If I recall, I believe there is a need to tell the TV which audio input you are using for the headset, otherwise the TV will probably default to using the 3.5mm input, which means when you plug in the optical cord the headset will seem not to work.
