“I am confused about the three settings on this vacuum. I plan on using it on a 2" shag area rug. Can I use it in hardwood mode and still have enough suction to properly clean the carpet. I do not want that beater brush to damage my carpet.”

I would use the 3rd setting. It will do the same as 2 but a little less suction so it won't pull up the carpet. Hardwood mode won't work. You risk damaging your rug and/or vacuum.

Please try again later.Hello Pam, We would like you to know that the brushrolls on the Shark® DuoClean® Powered Lift-Away Speed™ (NV801) Bagless Upright Vacuum do not stop spinning when you switch between the 3 flooring types. With this being said, it is best to use the Thick Carpet / Area Rug setting when vacuuming shag carpeting.
