• You can't manually turn the brush roll off, but when switching settings it will adjust to the floor type.

• Yes the brush roll can be switched off. But this is a vacuum meant for rugs or carpet. This is not a double vacuum for floors and carpet. I suggest looking for something that vacuums meant for floors. To be on the safe side.
