No, the vacuum does not stand alone, however this should not deter you from buying the rocket. It is the best vacuum ever!

yes, no. you have to detach the vacuum from the pole other wise it's to top heavy. which is why the flex one bends in half

No , you have to set it down on the floor or lean it against something. That's the only neg aspect of the vacuum , very easy to use, great power for hardwood and carpet
