No, the brush roll can NOT be turned off. It slows in hard floor setting, but never completely turns off. I hope this helps you, especially since I would have never purchased if the correct answer was on here.

Yes brush can be turned off, but I keep it on for wood floors. Brush seems to get entire floor cleaner
