Trim kit depends on your cabinet setup - Inset vs. Overlay - and size of cabinet, but often is not needed. Short answer 1: if you have Inset drawers on your cabinets, then you will want inset microwave. To inset this 23.5" microwave on an american style cabinet, you'll need a 27" wide cabinet. No trim kit should be needed. If you need the microwave in a 30" wide lower, then get the trim kit to span the difference. Short answer 2: if you have overlay drawers on your cabinets, then you could choose to either mount 'proud' on a 24" (no kit), or inset on a 27" (no kit). I searched the web and was able to find zero photos of the trim kits installed.
