I'm going to answer my own question here. I called Sharp tech support as directed and was informed that this set is equipped with a "clear QAM tuner", which is what the college cable provider says is required to view all available channels with simply a coaxial cable connection, no cable converter box required. Thank you, me.

Can you currently get the TV reception you want with other TVs? If you can, you will be able to get the same reception with this TV.
