You can definitely hook up without Roku because this is how I hooked it up for my dad who is 95
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The way this television is built the ROKU is the main operating system when you turn it on. The remote is also a ROKU remote so unless Best Buy has another model then you would not like this because it is fully ROKU integrated.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. This TV is specifically a Roku TV, which means that it has the functionality of a Roku built in. There are other 32" televisions that do not have this capability, but if you like the Roku interface and want a smart TV (one that is able to connect to Netflix, Hulu, etc.), then this is a pretty good television. There are other smart TVs that do not use the Roku interface and also other TVs of this size that do not have the ability to connect directly to the internet at all and would require an external source, such as a Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, smart Blu-ray player, etc. in order to play movies/TV from Netflix and other content services. If you want to be able to stream internet content on the TV, then buying a smart TV makes a lot of sense, particularly at this price point. That being said, if you want to be able to play Blu-ray movies, then purchasing a non-smart TV with a smart Blu-ray player may cost less (and provide the same overall functionality) than purchasing a smart TV with the same Blu-ray player. I've linked a 32" Sharp 1080p TV that does not have internet capabilities built in and a Blu-ray player that you would be able to use if you do indeed want to play internet content *and* Blu-ray movies.
I would recommend:
