• You dont NEED it, for the normal TV watcher it is just fine. But if you are some graphics aficionado and want to have theater quality sound : go buy one.

• The sound quality is acceptable on this Sharp HDTV. I find that it's loud enough for my taste. Of course if you want better sound, you can always purchase a sound bar, but that's entirely up to you.

• There's no noticeable base whatsoever, with the tv's speakers, to me, they sound like mobile phone speakers. So if sound quality is important to you, then you'll need to invest in a sound bar.
