The KC-850U has a Clean Air & Humidify MODE Button which will allow you to enable the humidify setting at your digression.

Yes you do not have to use the humidity function. It can operate as a normal purifier.

Yeah, just don't put water in it and it can't humidify :) But the humidity is an option when running the purifier. I live in FL and we still run it with the humidifier because it is very subtle.
