“What is the difference between the 33U and 35U? I'm seeing many reviews that say the picture on the 33U is not as good as on the 35U. I compared the specs on Sharp's website and it appears the only difference is 3D.”

thats the only difference ...i have the 35.. and ive seen a 33, i couldnt really tell the diff, as long as its 240hz , 1080p, LED and a Sharp quattron...your not really going to get much better.. unless your looking for 3D .. to be honest ive never even used the 3D lol so a 33 would have done the same job
