Yes, it works on its own as a home alarm that chimes to alert you if an alarmed door or window opens. It will not allow monitoring by their monitoring center and alerts to you via phone/Internet without the Internet connection by which the monitoring happens. We are using ours as a home alarm that alerts us of intruders when we are home and might add the monitoring, which is only 14/month.
