It really depends on the size of your dog and exactly what the dog is doing. I don't see a 25 lb or less dog moving on the floor causing issue. That same dog jumping on to furniture, having a party, or Hulking out may produce less than desired results.

I was told by SImplisafe c/s you can install the motion sensor upside down and mount it high enough so that the dog is under the sensor range but a person will be tall enough to trigger the sensor. The sensors have a 30ft range that is straight out from the sensor and about 45 degrees downward.
