The lock is battery-powered so it is unaffected by power outages. The lock itself does not use WiFi. It communicates with the SimpliSafe base station via its proprietary wireless network. The SimpliSafe base station also has built-in backup batteries, so during a power outage, it will operate until they discharge (a day or more depending on battery health and usage). The base station also has a backup cellular modem, so even if WiFi is lost, as long as the cellular modem has a signal, you can still operate your SimpliSafe system remotely.
