• Yes, you need to hook up using the antenna connector. If you choose the external aux connector, you must provide power too and it will be found in the radio harness.

• You just need to have access to the back of the radio and or the antenna (Depends on your specific vehicle and if it is a factory radio or aftermarket). There are many ways to install the XM Commander unit to interface with your car's radio. I recommend using Google to look for installation videos (That is how I found mine for a MK4 VW).
