“Hi, I’m planning on doing a 20+ channel system (using two of these) with a combination of vp82rs and vp88rs and I’m wondering if I need a Sonos port for each zone (each device has 8). If I do, what would be a cheaper option? ($5k on ports is expensive)”

you can get 2 ports, 1 for each amp and thus have 2 zones. 1 zone covers upto 16 speakers and the other would half the remainder of speakers. if you want to play on certain zones. then you would buy more ports and separate the speaker zones.
