• Only if you have Alexa mic turned on. If mic is off nothing is sent to amazon. Mic should be always off in my opinion.

• No. Any Alexa product is constantly listening for the wake up word “Alexa” or “Computer” or what you set it to. If it doesn’t hear that, it doesn’t record.
