All you need is to buy a $40 bridge, plug that into your router and you can add 20 speakers if you like. they all communicate via wi fi like your laptop, tablet or phone.

In this case, I would purchase the bridge and plug it into the router upstairs so you can configure the 2 speakers downstairs to be used over the sonos wireless network

Mine has always been near my router. I would definitely purchase this though!! Typically they come with a Bridge and you can probably hook the bridge up to your router and be fine with the speakers downstairs.
