• No it needs wifi to communicate a stand alone wifi system works but you will need a hotspot temporarily to update software and install then it works fine without internet

• Theoretically you can connect using your phone as a WiFi HotSpot but I don't recommend it. Sonos requires either a WIFI or a Hardwire Internet connection to one of its devices to work.
