I haven't noticed any high pitched noises coming from the STRDN1080 while it's off but my hearing isn't that great. It wouldn't surprise me if it was. I do know that the STRDN1080 makes an audible buzz or hum while the unit is on as does all of Sony's latest model A/V receivers, even the ES models are not immune. It's due to an inferior power supply. Even with my less then stellar hearing I was able to hear the buzz all the way from the couch. This was unacceptable to me and it was because of this reason that I returned the unit and went with a quality integrated amp. I suppose the STRDN1080 would be fine if your priority was movies but if you're serious about music then I recommended passing on all the latest Sony A/V receivers as they just aren't built all that well.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I notice more of a slight hum/buzz if I listen closely. I am not sure from what but i speculate interference from non-speaker wires crossing over speaker wires. If it bothers you and you are able, try to free your wires from contacting/crossing others and see if that helps. Also disconnecting them one at a time from the back of the receiver may help to isolate the interference.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yep. The noise is there, only when the receiver is in standby mode. I got it open box and now I know why the previous owner didnt like it. I ll still do basic troubleshooting, but I think I ll end up returning it.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Sony is the best when it comes to music actually. And only when it was in did I hear it. Only on this model 2
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. No, I haven't heard any noise, to be honest, I have had it only for 3-4weeks.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. No
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I haven't from my unit. Seems fine to me. Sounds like a defect.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It's not an issue I'm having. Some things you can check, is the noise actually coming from the receiver, or from a speaker or sub? Are all of your connections clean and secure? If the receiver is on but not receiving any inputs from another source, does the noise persist? If it's off/in standby, with no speakers or subs connected, does it still make the noise? The 1080 is my 5th in the STR-DN10XX family and I've never had any kind of high pitched noise coming from the receiver itself. I've had subs and powered speakers give off a high pitched whine if the connections were loose or the gain was too high. If you've checked all of the above, I would recommend contacting Sony support. They were really helpful when I had one of their TV's fail on me and even sent pro's to replace it because the part to repair it wasn't available. I hope this helps.
