If you ask for a TOS-Link optical cable, your Home Theater associate you encounter in Best Buy should know what you are asking for. You need a fiber optic cable, so a Rocketfish or Insignia cable or better will work. Try not to get a cable over 25 feet, as that seems to be a general rule for signal degradation with some digital cable products. To ensure that your cable is right, if it looks like those old fashion RCA cables (you know, the red, white and yellow cables we used for old video game systems) you've bought the wrong one. That optical cable tends to have a orange/orange-ish red hue around the metal plug. That is not the cable. If you have a HDTV, if I may suggest, check to make sure your TV has a port on it called ARC (Audio Return Channel). That will allow you to connect HDMI to it directly giving you better sound support, as Optical connections do not give you as many options for audio codecs. In other words, if you buy a high performance vehicle, you don't want to buy something that could potentially throttle the performance of your ride. Again, use HDMI via ARC if your television supports it. If not, Optical will deliver sound, and it will deliver a sound you'll like, but it may not deliver all that your movies can deliver. Hope this helps!

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Hi Maggie, you can use any kind of optical cable. However, if you want a quality cable without breaking the bank, we suggest investing in an HDMI cable instead for the best audio quality. The length will depend on how far this device will be from your TV or receiver. Thanks, -Mark
