So, for example, if a TV station airs a movie in 4k content, it cannot be watched unless your components are all HDCP2.2 compatible? Or, can it be watched in regular 1080 or regular HD? It is very unclear as to whether the station will be completely unwatchable. The 4K content is not important to me, unless the TV station airing in 4K is not watchable at all.”

Hi ljlt, HDCP 2.2 pertains to copyright-protected contents. To view copyright-protected 4K content, connect the devices via an HDCP 2.2 compatible HDMI jack on each end. Copyright-protected 4K content can be viewed only by a connection via HDCP 2.2-compatible HDMI jacks. You can watch any program as long as it doesn't have copyright-protection. Thanks, >Joffrey

I set mine up with all my components plugged into the tv, and then set the tv to use external speakers. Seems like you could do that and still get the 4K picture quality. Hope that helps.
