You should assigned the speakers as your Height speakers
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I had mine set up like you and did not like them that way. I now have them set as Dolby Enabled Rear Surround and they sound much better I think. I set them on 36 inch speaker stands in the rear.

I have two front speakers (towers) and these speakers are sitting on top of the my front tower speakers as they are intended for -- aiming at the ceiling. My question is should they be connected as "front presence" (SP2 on the Yamaha), or as surround sound speakers (SP1) -- or would it matter?

By installing the unit with the speaker facing towards the ceiling, the effect of sounds coming from overhead can be obtained as the output sound reflects from the ceiling. This unit is designed to provide its performance as a Dolby Atmos-enabled speaker when installed on the front speaker horizontally. To use these speakers as front high speakers, you need to attach the bottom of the unit to the wall, with the speaker facing downwards.
