You can use these as surround back speakers in a 7.1 setup as well. For music, unless you have specially encoded surround music, you probably want to run that in stereo anyways for best sound, so no, it wouldn't enhance non atmos encoded music. There are some tracks on services such as Amazon Music HD that are offering tracks encoded with Atmos and Sony's Auro 3D.
