“I stream through a Roku: no cable tv. I purchased a Samsung and every time I turn it on it says "No Input: Check connections" and has ugly static behind the apps. Does this Sony do that? I want a tv that is smart enough to know I don't have cable.”

it sounds like the problem is either the tv or the roku box itself and maybe the cable. try a different hdmi input, if it still gives you problems, try a different cable and you will know where the problem is
