I used my standard HDMI cables with NO problems. In my opinion the standard cables are fine unless you have excessively long cable runs; then you might want a "more expensive" cable. Also, if you are going to install the cable in the wall, you probably should use a cable rated for that application. This is more for cable protection than picture quality. I suspect that the "higher quality" 4K cable push is mostly marketing hype than technical.
Hi Merle, you can use a standard HDMI cable with this TV. A 4K HDMI is only needed if you'll connect a 4K device. Best regards, -Erin
There are very wide variances in methods and quality used to make HDMI cables, for this reason the HDMI Forum (hdmi.org) has very specific guidelines around HDMI cable types, as it relates to the data bandwidth and features the cable can reliably support. Using 4K video content on older HDMI cables might work, but is also really pushing the cable's bandwidth limits, is limited to lower frame rates and may experience signal drop-out if pushed too fast. For 4K source and sink devices, a "Premium High Speed HDMI Cable" should be used, to reliably support 18Gbps of data bandwidth. The bandwidth reliability is provided by a combination of controls around the materials used in the cable wiring, and methods used to manufacture the cable.
