“How do I force my Sony XBR-49X830C to scan for over-the-air digital TV stations? My Sony XBR-49X830C has been setup for Direct TV, but I have since discontinued the DIRECTV service and want to watch the many free OTA TV stations available in my area. Unfortunately the TV refuses to rescan for digital TV stations. When I select Television/Cable it just skips to cable and allows me to move through the old DIRECTV channels, and simply reports no signal. Unlike my other TVs, I cannot find a way to force it to look at OTA or to rescan for TV stations. I wouldn’t expect it to be necessary to reset everything back to factory settings every time I want to rescan for TV stations, but in desperation actually tried! I went into Settings, selected Factory data reset, but nothing seemed to happen and it still ignores OTA TV. I know I’m up-to-date on the Sony software as I’ve always allowed download of any offered updates. So I’m afraid the TV itself is defective, but before I take it back to the GEEK squad at Best Buy (have the Geek Squad extended warrantee), I thought I’d best try to find help here.”
