• Hi Skinnymini, Sony Bravia XBR-49X800E has a built-in speaker. Purchasing a soundbar is optional. Regards, Vincent

• The 800E does have speakers but if you want great sound it pairs awesomely with the Sony HTCT800 Soundbar/Subwoofer. If your picture is going to be great it is nice to have great sound as well.
