“Sony tv keeps turning on and off and saying checking updates then off again. Solution I keep seeing is to go to home and settings, but I cannot even get that far because it turns off again. New batteries in remote. Still no help”

You might try removing the power by unplugging the power supply for at least 10 seconds. This procedure might reset the control system and allow you to access the programming menu and check for updates.
