The USB ports are intended to be used for external flash storage, not an iPod. An iPod requires MP3's to be logged into iTunes and formatted before an iPod could play the file. You would need to transfer the file on to a flash drive, move that to your computer, then copy the file into iTunes.

You can’t record from an external source component to this unit’s USB port. Sorry. This unit’s front panel USB port can only be used to copy music from a CD to a compatible USB media device or compatible USB flash drive in the MP3 file format. Please note that the Sony CD Changer does not record to CD, and it does not feature any audio input jacks that allow you to connect an audio component that functions as a recording source. However, if you do own a portable MP3 player with recording capabilities, then you can connect the MP3 recorder’s line input jack to the line output jack on the Sony Changer. Next, begin playback of the Sony CD Changer. Lastly, activate the record function on your portable MP3 recorder to copy music from the Sony CD Changer to your recorder in the MP3 format. Good Luck.
