Yes. I have DirectTV also and I can watch or record. It's not the TV that determines what channels you can view. It's what package you have with DirectTV.

If you have a DIRECTV setup box, you can simply connect it to the HDMI input of the TV to watch your favorite shows. If you are asking if you can watch your favorite shows from the DIRECTV App, please refer to the below: Unfortunately, the DIRECTV App is not currently available to our X80J. There is good news, however! As an alternative, if your phone or tablet supports Chromecast, you can simply use this feature from the DIRECTV App to cast the content to this TV.
