Hi Sally, Thank you for your inquiry. The X85J is a 4K DIRECTV ready. Every terminal on all 4K/8K BRAVIA TVs supports HDCP 2.2 or 2.3 protocol that allows you to connect various compatible 4K media boxes. You may refer to this link with steps to connect the DIRECTV Genie DVR to the 4K TV: https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/articles/00147586 Should you need further assistance, please email the below information to [email protected]. Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I struggle through this process also, and I may have “accidentally” entered the “Brand Name” of the Directtv Genie. I may have, as a last resort entered “DEFAULT” in the field. I’m not completely sure, however. I called chatted with DirecTv and SONY help desk, but they both seemed inexperienced. I assume that this is the intent of your question. The “physical connection between Genie and Sony is through the HDMI output (on rear of box) and going through to the HDMI-1 (or other HDMI TV input. Hope this helps. I sometimes, at 72, died myself struggling through the new digital World. I often tell people this “I am an analog man living in a digital World!”. If you have a geek friend, I would consult them if still unsuccessful. Or, we can all call “the Geek Squad” at Best Buy. They are often helpful, but may charge a fee or the service. Or, just keep googling for the right answer. Weirdly, 6 months prior to my X85J, I was able to set-up my SONY A90J 65 in OLED TV. I did not have any problem with this since setup was fairly “autonomous”. Bob
