As an X85J owner I can confirm that when using HDMI 2.1 port for input, on 120Hz 4K vertical resolution is cut in half and upscaled. If you are running internal content (youtube, netflix, etc) this is not the issue. Problem is not in cable, it is in SoC used for input signal processing. This issue is also confirmed on multiple testing sites and forums (rtings.com and official bravia forum).
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, it's true - but just vertical resolution - and mainly just on PCs, apparently. I don't have a PS5 or Xbox One X so I don't know what happens with those, but it looks TERRIBLE on a PC! I mainly got this TV to use as a 43" monitor but it's looking like I'll have to take it back. When set to 120 Hz, text is nearly unreadable (a 4:4:4 chroma issue) and even games look terrible. Sony WILL NOT acknowledge this issue - trying to handle these as one-offs but it is a problem with ALL of their X85J TVs. Very, very disappointing and boils down to false advertising.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. This is 100 percent true. It's a little annoying because i heard about this, but bought it anyway. People saying the vertical resolution isnt affected at 120hz, unfortunately dont know what they are talking about, and are sadly leaving others confused. This is a hardware problem, and cannot be overcome via software updates. Its very sad that not many tech reviewers even mentioned this in their review. Its most obvious when plugging in a pc or laptop.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. If I had to guess the reason people are experiencing that issue is that they're not using a hdmi 2.1 cord. In my experience I have not noticed a drop in resolution when switching to 120 hz. I could be wrong but if I haven't been playing in 4k the whole time it still looks great. And my PC says it's being played in 4k 120 hz. I imagine people are using Hdmi 2.0 cords which can't handle 4k at 120 hz and that is why it cuts in half. You have to have a 2.1 cord for 4k 120hz.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.No. The 120hz does not affect the resolution.
