It sounds like whoever installed it used a cheap method of wire connections. Unless they solder the wires the connections may have come undone. I do not recommend anything but solder and heat shrink over the connection after solder. Butt joints do not hold and twisting wires together is never a good idea for car stereos as they short out. I would take the radio out yourself and check the connections. You can do it, it is just a matter of confidence. What do you have to lose the radio isn;t working and the shop that installed it will probably charge you another 100 to fix what shotty work they did.
